Lunch and dinner will be your introduction to dining on board and set the scene for the meals to come.
After a night of fine dining and comfort aboard The Ghan, wake to a breathtaking outback sunrise at remote Marla. Enjoy breakfast, then continue to Alice Springs, where a new journey begins. Meet the Outback Spirit crew for the eight-day Red Centre Explorer tour. Check in to your Alice Springs hotel for a two-night stay, with welcome drinks, a tour briefing, and dinner at the hotel.
Today, explore the natural beauty of Alice Springs and its surrounds. Start with a walk at Simpsons Gap, a sacred Arrernte site, followed by a visit to Standley Chasm, owned and operated by the local Arrernte community. After morning tea, head to the Alice Springs Desert Park for a guided tour that reveals the richness of desert life. In the evening, enjoy a classic outback BBQ and show under the stars
Leave Alice Springs and head deeper into the outback. Stop at Ellery Creek for a short walk and morning tea, then visit the striking red cliffs of Ormiston Gorge. After lunch, travel the scenic Mereenie Loop to Kings Canyon in Watarrka National Park. Arrive at Kings Canyon Resort for a two-night stay, with dinner tonight at Carmichael’s, nestled among native bushland—keep an eye out for curious dingoes.
This morning, explore Kings Canyon with a choice of two walks—the stunning 6km rim walk or the easier 2.6km creek walk. Optional helicopter flights over the canyon are also available (own expense). After lunch and a rest at the resort, there’s more time for scenic flights or leisure. In the evening, enjoy sunset drinks at the Light-Towers installation, followed by dinner at the Kings Canyon Bar & Grill.

After breakfast, explore Kata Tjuta with a guided walk through Walpa Gorge, then visit the Uluru Cultural Centre and enjoy a guided base tour of Uluru. Learn about Anangu culture and the sacred significance of this iconic site. In the afternoon, visit the Gallery of Central Australia and enjoy free time to relax or explore the resort. Before sunset, head to a private dune-top for drinks and canapés as Bruce Munro's Field of Light illuminates the desert. Return to the hotel for a late dinner around 9:00pm.
Start the day with an optional Uluru sunrise, followed by breakfast and the Mala Walk, featuring ancient rock art and the serene Kantju Gorge. Enjoy a free afternoon to relax, explore the resort, or take a scenic flight (own expense). In the evening, experience the Sounds of Silence dinner—canapés, a bush-inspired buffet, and stargazing under the desert sky. Return to Sails in the Desert for your final night.
Enjoy a hearty breakfast at the hotel before making the journey by road from Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park to the Alice Springs Rail Terminal where your Red Centre Explorer tour comes to an end. Re-join The Ghan and reacquaint yourself to life on train as The Ghan heads north, enjoy watching the beautiful scenery pass by your window as you relax with fellow travelers in the Gold Premium Lounge and Restaurant.
As the landscape shifts to rugged gorges and flowing streams, enjoy a scenic boat cruise through Nitmiluk Gorge—or opt for the Katherine Outback Experience or a helicopter flight (own expense) for a unique perspective. Today begins with a scenic 60-minute flight from Jabiru, offering stunning views of ancient escarpments, rivers, and floodplains. Then head to the East Alligator River for an Indigenous-guided cruise, spotting saltwater crocodiles and hearing local stories. Next, visit the Ubirr rock art site, with the option to climb for panoramic views. After lunch, explore the Burrungkuy (Nourlangie) Art Site before returning to the hotel to relax and enjoy dinner. (Note: In March/April, Ubirr is replaced with Nourlangie after the flight, and the cruise takes place on Yellow Waters.)
This morning, depart Kakadu National Park and journey along the Arnhem Highway through Mary River National Park, known for its rich wetlands and birdlife. Enjoy a wildlife cruise on the Mary River, spotting saltwater crocodiles and a variety of native birds. Continue through the fertile Humpty Doo region, famous for its tropical fruit farms, before arriving in Darwin in the early evening, marking the end of your three-day Simply Kakadu Tour. (B,L) *Due to the seasonal weather experienced in the Top End during March and April you will enjoy the famous ‘Jumping Croc Cruise’ in place of the Mary River cruise.
Today is free for you to enjoy the sights of Darwin at leisure. Perhaps take a stroll along the Waterfront Precinct or visit the George Brown Darwin Botanic Gardens. In the evening, see why Top End sunsets are so special on a Darwin Harbour Sunset Cruise. You’ll feast on a Territory style featuring local seafood and produce as the color of the sky transforms to hues of vibrant red and orange.
This morning, it’s time to check out of your hotel, completing your Ultimate Territory Tour. You’ve just spent 15 days exploring Australia’s outback, walking away with lasting memories and a deeper understanding of culture and country.
