Once part of the Decapolis—the ten great Roman cities of the East—Jerash is often dubbed the "Pompeii of the East" due to its remarkable state of preservation. Explore its impressive ruins, including grand theaters, ancient churches, temples dedicated to Zeus and Artemis, a stunning Nymphaeum, and beautifully colonnaded streets.
Following your exploration of Jerash, return to Amman for a city tour of Jordan’s bustling capital, the heart of the Hashemite Kingdom. Known as the "White City" for its limestone buildings, Amman is a vibrant blend of ancient traditions and modern flair. Day 4 - Dead Sea (B,D)
After breakfast, set out on a full-day adventure to the legendary city of Petra, once the thriving capital of the Nabatean kingdom. Rich with history and wonder, Petra invites you to step back in time. The journey begins at the Visitor Center, where each guest is assigned a Bedouin-guided horse for a short ride to the entrance of the fabled "Lost City."
As you approach, you’ll pass tombs carved into the rock outside the city walls before entering the SIQ—a dramatic, narrow gorge carved into the rose-colored sandstone. This winding, one-kilometer passage, flanked by cliffs towering over 300 feet high, builds anticipation with every step. At its final curve, the SIQ unveils Petra’s most iconic monument in breathtaking fashion: El Khazneh, or The Treasury. This majestic façade, nearly 140 feet high and 90 feet wide, is intricately carved into the mountainside and glows with a warm, pinkish hue under the desert sun.
Beyond The Treasury, Petra stretches out in all its grandeur. You’ll be surrounded by hundreds of archaeological marvels—towering temples, ornate royal tombs, the remains of a Roman theater, and a maze of houses, burial chambers, and sacred spaces carved directly into the rock.
The Victorian poet Dean Burgon captured Petra’s magic with words that still resonate:
"Match me such a marvel save in Eastern clime, a rose-red city half as old as time."After exploring this UNESCO World Heritage Site, return to your hotel at the Dead Sea for an overnight stay.
