  Day 14 - Stewart Island (B)

  Today, drive from Invercargill to Bluff (30 minutes) and leave your vehicle in the parking lot adjacent to the Bluff Visitor Terminal (not included) and board the ferry to Oban. The 1-hour ferry crossing from Bluff to Stewart Island offers a scenic voyage across the Foveaux Strait, with stunning views of rugged coastlines and the chance to spot marine wildlife, including dolphins and seabirds.

  On arrival, make your way to your hotel for an overnight stay.

  This afternoon, embark on a 1.5-hour guided tour of Stewart Island, offering a fascinating glimpse into New Zealand’s southernmost community. Discover the island’s rich history, unique environment, and Māori heritage—known as Rakiura or “glowing skies.” Led by knowledgeable local guides, this mini-bus tour includes photo stops and short walks at scenic spots, including the gateway to Rakiura National Park at Lee Bay and Observation Rock, with panoramic views of Paterson Inlet.

  This evening, enjoy an evening of kiwi spotting. The tour begins with a 10-minute vehicle transfer to Mamaku Point with the experienced natural history guide. A biosecurity fence prevents non-native mammals from entering the Reserve - enter via a simple quarantine system to climb rugged hilly terrain, ancient native podocarp forest and grassland in search for Stewart Island Brown Kiwi (Tokoeka). Torch will be provided for the tour. The evening comes to an end from Mamaku Point by vehicle to the Stewart Island accommodations.
